Anthem jets into a free-for-all open demo weekend

Assuming Origin doesn’t buckle under the load again, anyone interested can log in and play Anthem right now through until February 3rd. BioWare reckon they’ve got the worst of the kinks hammered out of the power-armoured open world shooter after its rocky ‘VIP’ demo, according to this here developer blog post. This is set to be the game’s last public demo before it launches on February 22nd (or the 15th if you’re an Origin subscriber), so give it a spin. Technical issues aside, I quite enjoyed my time with the previous demo session – it’s not quite Terra Nova 2, but it’ll do.

The RPS Verdict – Resident Evil 2

The zombie remake first confounded Matt in his Resident Evil 2 review, before winning him over with its survival horror. Since then, two RPS folk who remember the 1998 original have had time to confront the undead. So what’s our final verdict?

Brendan: Oh hello, Matt. Hi, Dave. Fancy meeting you two here, among these burning ambulances and smashed-up lamp posts. Raccoon City definitely isn’t what they advertised on the brochure, is it?

Matt: “Raccoon City” is a ridiculous name and time has somehow made you all forget this.

Dave: It could have had a more appropriate name, but then it wouldn’t be Resident Evil without the B-Movie schlock.

Best gaming keyboard 2019: Our top mechanical and membrane picks for PC

When it comes to picking your next gaming keyboard, one crucial thing to decide is whether you want a mechanical gaming keyboard or a membrane one. The best mechanical gaming keyboards can be noisy and expensive, but they’re generally more durable and come with more features than your typical membrane keyboard. Membrane gaming keyboards, on the other hand, are a lot cheaper and quieter than their mechanical counterparts, but they’re also more prone to breaking and are harder to repair.

Resident Evil 2 in Noir mode is twice as scary, ten times as stylish

Stop whatever you’re doing and go and buy some entirely superficial DLC for the latest release in a mainstream videogame franchise right now. Today is the day Rock, Paper, Shotgun betrays everything it once stood for (for about three hours one day in July 2008, probably). Because today is the day I played the excellent Resident Evil 2 remake in the nothing-less-than-glorious Noir mode.

Ape Out slips (e.g. on a banana peel) to end of the month

We’ll need to wait another three weeks for the mansmash cymbalcrash action of Ape Out, as publishers Devolver Digital today announced the launch is delayed from next Thursday until February 28th. What I’ve seen and played of Ape Out was a thumping great time so I’m happy to wait, especially given that the delay is supposedly to give the devs time to get it going at 60fps. I’ll welcome extra smoothness when I’m an escaped gorilla hurling humans and causing carnage. And in the game.

Best PC gaming deals of the week – 1st February 2019

It is snowing in the Great British isles today, which can only mean one thing. The entire country has been brought to its needs by a couple of wet flakes and there’s no hope of anything being resolved whatsoever for at least another eight weeks when we’re definitely sure it’s absolutely gone with no hope of ever coming back. Am I still talking about the snow?
