The Flare Path: Fogbound

When it comes to theme, structure, and expectations, the two upcoming wargames Flare Pathed below have flip-all in common. Unity of Command II, the highly anticipated sequel to a WW2 wonder that managed to be handsome, historical, friendly and fierce, is hexy and turn-chopped, a refined relation of that great populariser, Panzer General. Radio Commander, on the other hand, is a real-time enigma, a Vietnam War battle sim that has no obvious antecedents… nothing to live up to. If there is a common thread it’s a fog-bejewelled one. Both games blindfold enthusiastically. Fog of War gathers in their map hollows like spilled milk. (more…)

Dead Or Alive 6 has commenced biffing
Where some fighting games let us create ridiculous characters with custom costumes (looking at you, Tekken 7 and Soulcalibur VII), Dead Or Alive 6 boldly makes its pugilists look ludicrous by default. Team Ninja’s latest face-puncher is out now, released this morning, and is the first in the series to launch for PC on the same day as its console counterparts.
“That’s good and all, Alice,” you’re currently thinking, “but when are you going to talk about the jiggling? Tell us about the jiggling. Say something sarky about the jiggling.”

A new mode and more guns blow into Insurgency: Sandstorm
The winds of change have blown through tacto-coolo FPS Insurgency: Sandstorm. The clouds are pregnant with five new guns, the sky awash with balance tweaks and quality of life improvements, and I’ve already ran out of appropriately stormy ways to describe the new mode. It’s a lightning bolt of… fun?
Nah, it’s just team deathmatch – but it has swept in alongside a new arcade playlist that might spit out more interesting modes in the future.

Vermintide 2 alters its beasts with new DLC this summer
I unexpectedly starting jonesing just the other day for a bout of delightfully grimdark rat-splatting in Warhammery Left 4 Deadlike Vermintide 2. It’s coming up to a year since its release, but I never got around to the various DLC to date.
Perhaps now I’ll wait until the summer, when the hairy crew known as the Beastmen are set to join the fray in what’s being billed as the first actual ‘expansion’ for V2.
