Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son will be a VR adventure game sequel to the movie

Ah, here we are doing the same thing over again – and yet, this one is different. Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son is breaking the loop of movie sequels sticking to the same media format and will instead be a virtual reality adventure game.

You can see what’s old and what’s new, plus some cute little rodent friends, in the trailer.

The Sunday Papers

Sundays are for being on aeroplanes. Possibly reading the best writing about videogames from the past week.

For Eurogamer, Cian Maher spoke to the Oblivion modders who collaborated with Terry Pratchett. It’s a heartwarming piece, not least because it provides a new perspective on a great man whose signature used to sit on my mantelpiece.

Encounter the alien creatures of the deep sea in Oceanarium

“Have you heard the quote, ‘We know more about deep space than we do about the ocean’?” writes developer Paloma Dawkins on Oceanarium’s itch.io page. “This is a game inspired by that. It doesn’t seem fair if you ask me, the ocean is full of undiscovered aliens.”

Celebrate Lunar New Year by picking up Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China for free

Stealthy 2.5D side-scrolling platformer Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China is free for keepsies as part of Ubisoft’s Lunar New Year sale right now.

It’s been a while since I played this first entry in the Chronicles trilogy, and it was on a platform forbidden in these halls, but I remember it being quite good. The painterly style is certainly nice to look at, and if you can get into a rhythm of sneaking and stabbing through the levels the fluidity is very satisfying. Nabbing it for nothing sounds like a fine deal to me.
