The eeriest places in games are the ones where the environment is the monster

Whilst raw forms of horror work through shock and disgust, the eerie is felt more as a threat. Perhaps something seems to hover over or follow you — there’s a rustling just behind you, or a shimmering in your peripheral vision. Usually eeriness pertains to places rather than people. Places that seem to move, shift or even act when they really should lie still. This sense is just as likely to be found in an empty room as an open moor. Sometimes, however, this sense manifests, becoming a force that can reach out and grip us.

Just Cause 4 system requirements confirmed

I’ve seen you, sneaking scraps under the dinner table to feed your PC. A few bits and bytes when you thought no one was looking. But those add up, you know, megabits and gigabytes of bloat weighing your PC down. Will it be lean enough, fast enough, hungry enough to run Just Cause 4? Fortnite adds balloons, might be about to send off Kevin

No party is complete without balloons. Fortnite Battle Royale becomes more like a ten-year-old’s birthday do with every update – only with more machine guns. And helium balloons with enough lift to send you, a friend and your shopping trolley skywards.

Those balloons landed (floated?) with today’s update, but the Fortnite freight train of news doesn’t stop there. Epic Games have lined up another in-game event for Sunday, where we may finally see the demise of Kevin the cube. Or something. (more…)
