Nightmarish platformer Darq has changed its look

If you’re a fan of the ‘nightmarish platformers where horrible things chase small boys’ genre, then DARQ should be right up your street. In this case, those nightmares are literal – Darq is an upcoming “psychological horror game set in a zero-gravity lucid dream”. Adam spotted it back in 2015, but developers Unfold Games aren’t sneaking it out until near the end of this year. You can watch its latest trailer now though, and I’m interested in whether you’ll have the same reaction to it that I did.

Wipeout-ish racer Antigraviator’s demo hovers out

Human civilisation has been in the slow lane since prehistoric times, when Sir Isaac Newton created gravity and suddenly we needed wheels to push anything around (e.g. potatoes, geese, other people, parts to create more wheels). But racing games like Wipeout offer hope of a future where we might perhaps close Newton’s Pandora’s Box, rid ourselves of gravity, and zoom around mega-fast and upside-down as our ancestors did. You can experience a taste of this future in the free demo for Antigraviator, a new hover-racing game which will launch in full next week. Go on, stick it to Newton. (more…)

The Flare Path: Gongs and Gripes

Although Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord doesn’t do medals, The Flare Path does. If you’ve been following the fortunes of Caent’s doughty defenders for the past three weeks, you may be interested to learn that a) the scenario used is now available for download, and b) several units involved in the action were decorated for their contributions.

(This week’s FP also includes some impressions of 303 Squadron: Battle of Britain, an Early Access air combat game that’s more Defiant than Spitfire at the moment.)

Slay The Spire’s third character, The Defect, has arrived

Delightful deck-building dungeon-crawler Slay The Spire has officially launched its third character, a robot wizard named The Defect, and they’re a wild one. The Defect can conjure and consume a series of Orbs with passive and active effects, can pull off wild tricks with huge numbers of Power cards, and can also go full-on murderbot and tear enemies apart with their bare hands. I had thought The Defect was underpowered when they first arrived in the public beta build last month but, after more time with ’em, they might be my favourite spire-slayer. (more…)

Best PC gaming deals of the week

This week’s batch of deals includes, but isn’t limited to, a big discount on Dragon Ball FighterZ. That would explain the gratuitous use of a Vegeta image just above this very text. At least that’s the reasoning I’m using. Other than that, there’s also discounts on everything from graphics cards to Frostpunk and even another chance to pick up Sleeping Dogs for less than the price of a Brighton coffee.

OneShot is out on Mac and that’s nice for you, Dan

Hear ye Mac users, heed my blowing horn of low-key game news. Meta-heroic RPG OneShot is now playable on your fruit-powered computers. It’s the story of a cat-eyed girl who carries around a lightbulb, which she thinks is the sun, through a dark world of broken robots and abandoned shacks. But it’s also about you, since the characters are aware there’s a god in the sky who sees everything, and they have no qualms about talking to that god and sometimes even manage to know your name without ever being told.
