Dark Platforming Souls: Salt & Sanctuary Shows Co-Op

You can tell Ska Studios’ Salt and Sanctuary [official site] is a bit Dark Souls-y, because it’s got that Souls UI. Just as a gurning mug on an FPS’s UI in the ’90s let players know they were in for something a wee bit Wolfenstein-y, those red and green bars in the top-left corner say this is a grim game with plenty of mystery, parrying, and dying. And it is. Salt & Sanctuary may have missed plans to launch last year but here, look at this new trailer’s bit of co-op Soulsing.

Cyber Reality: HTC Vive Pre-Orders Now Open

Your new children.

Kiss your meatwife goodbye and take a photo of yourself for your meatdaughter to cherish, for you are soon to transcend the flesh and enter the cyberworld. I mean, if you have £700/$800/€900 spare, a powerful PC, and someone who’ll refill your nutrient paste tubes and empty your bucket.

The Vive – HTC and Valve’s virtual reality system which combines cybergoggles with motion controllers and sensors to track cyberusers moving around the room – has just opened pre-orders. They will start shipping on April 5th. They are expensive.

Stardew Valley: Harvest Moon-y Country Living Now Out

If you’ve wanted a game like Harvest Moon or Animal Crossing on PC, hey, Stardew Valley [official site] came out on Friday evening and is very much that sort of game. That’s you sorted, off you go.

If those names mean little to you… Stardew Valley’s a country life sim/RPG/thing about a simpler life of growing crops, raising animals, fishing, going on adventures to duff up monsters, befriending townfolk, finding love, crafting, collecting, building and all that. It’s proving quite popular.

Shenmue 3 Screens Offer Glimpse Of What’s To Come

For many a Shenmue fanatic, the fact that Shenmue 3 [official site] is still actually happening is enough to overwhelm. By the time the third series entry lands next December, 16 years will have passed since the conclusion of the last, thus it’s had an inordinate amount of time to stew in the cauldron of cult status. Can it live up to the hype? Who knows, but the latest screens showcased at the Monaco Anime Game International Conferences (MAGIC) at the weekend suggest it might be on the right track. Let’s check them out together after the drop.

The RPG Scrollbars: Heroes. Don’t. Craft.

Few game mechanics right now make me ‘urrrrrrrrrrgh’ quite like crafting. Bloody, bloody crafting. I hate crafting. I hate that just about every game I pick up can’t wait to introduce its crafting system to me, with its long shopping lists of finnicky items to find, and about as much care for being believable as all those shotguns and medikits Lara Croft used to find littering ancient tombs. Crafting is the worst, and unlike something like the escort missions of old, it manages to be the worst regardless of how much it actually ends up wasting your time.

Shanghai Major: Why Did Valve Fire Dota 2 Host James?

Where to start with the Shanghai Major right now? I’ve been trying to pull some thoughts together after the firings and the Reddit threads and the statement from Gabe Newell over the weekend but perhaps it’s better to just run through the basic timeline for the Major’s major Dota 2 [official site] drama and just explain what the heck is going on:
